2019 is Akshay Kumar’s year. Move over Khans

first_img2019 is here, and by the looks of it, Akshay Kumar owns it. It is going to be a highly eventful year for the actor, as he has five films to look forward to. This year, he will be seen in Kesari, Mission Mangal, Good News, Housefull 4 and Sooryavanshi. What’s more interesting is that each of the five films belong to different genres, and will be quite a variety for the audience. What remains to be seen is how much revenue these films bring in.KESARIKesari is based on the famous battle of Saragarhi. Akshay plays Havildar Ishar Singh who led the Sikh Regiment against Afghan tribesmen in a battle in 1897 that took place at Saragarhi. The film stars Parineeti Chopra and has been directed by Anurag Singh. It will hit the screens on March 22.MISSION MANGALThe film tells the story of India’s first Mars Mission. It stars Sonakshi Sinha, Vidya Balan, Sharman Joshi and Taapsee Pannu. It will hit the screens on August 15. The cast of Mission MangalGOOD NEWSAkshay Kumar will be paired opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan in the film. They play a married couple, who are trying for a baby. The film will hit the screens on July 19.advertisementHousefull 4This is the fourth film in the enormously successful Housefull franchise. It will hit the screens on October 26.Sooryavanshi Directed by Rohit Shetty, Sooryavanshi is touted to be a cop drama. It will go on floors this year.2018 was a golden year for Akshay, as around Rs 600 crore poured in from just three releases, 2.0 (Rs 400 crore), Gold (Rs 105 crore) and Pad Man (Rs 82 crore). One was a sci-fi drama, the other was a sports drama and the last one was a social commentary. Clearly, Akshay is quite a versatile actor and can slip into any roles and characters that is demanded of him. While Akshay soared in 2018, the big Khans had a rather unlucky year. Salman Khan’s Race 3, Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero and Aamir Khan’s Thugs of Hindostan all bombed at the box office and were panned by critics, as well as the audience. They could barely rake in over Rs 150 crore.Films that were made on a smaller budget raced ahead and content was appreciated over star power. In 2019, Salman will be seen in Bharat and SRK will start work on Rakesh Sharma biopic.ALSO SEE: Simmba leaked online.
